Down on Channel Farm–November Report

The short snap of dry weather helped the final harvesting of potatoes and broccoli and the last carrots will be soon be harvested, with the crop safely under their frost-protecting layer of straw.

The final week of broccoli packing always clashes with imported Spanish broccoli–it is more expensive to harvest at this time of year and yields are down so there’s some pressure on this front.

However, our crops have survived the wet autumn, winter wheat sowings are back on track and crisp frosts have created a good seedbed.

The biggest challenge will be keeping the geese from eating the fresh growth!
